Whats the Best Black Finish Coating for a Motorcycle? PJ1 Powersports

All colors have excellent durability and superior heat and chemical resistance. They are specially formulated to withstand corrosion, rust, salt spray, chemicals and additives of today’s gasoline blends and degreasers. The best spray paint for a motorcycle frame is engine acrylic aerosol paint. It offers durability and a professional finish, making it ideal for motorcycle frames when applied correctly. Enamel or acrylic enamel is an excellent choice for your bike because it’s soft enough not to crack but hard enough to provide a high-gloss finish if applied correctly.

I went to town on the mufflers, mid-pipes, header pipes, cylinder heads, engine cases – you name it, this paint worked wonders on them all. I even jokingly considered trying to paint the exhaust gases themselves, though I’d caution anyone against attempting that feat. In conclusion, this budget-friendly option from JEGS exceeded my expectations. It proved to be more than just an economical choice, delivering quality and performance that made it a worthwhile addition to my motorcycle maintenance kit.

You're going to be adding a lot of layers to your engine, which means each layer should be completely dry before adding the next one. The surface of the paint that is exposed to the air dries much more quickly than the stuff that is closest to the metal, so the paint will often look dry long before it actually is. If you don't wait long enough, then moisture from previous layers may end up getting trapped under a fully cured layer. This moisture will then get super-heated the next time you fire up your bike which can lead to bubbling and peeling as the moisture seeks to create a path to expand and escape from beneath the solid paint. Paint will take much longer to dry in cold and humid climates than it does in warm and arid ones.

Ideal ambient temperature for application is 70°F, but an acceptable temperature range is between 50-80°F. A full coat will usually cover but if a second coat is needed, apply when first coat is dry to the touch (no finger drag) and within 24 hours of first coat. Motorcycle touch-up paints are designed for specific motorcycle colors, while car touch-up paints are made for car shades. Despite these differences, the underlying chemistry of the paints is essentially the same. Apply 3-4 additional thin layers of base color, allowing each layer to dry for about 3 hours.

Once the paint has dried, carefully remove the tape to reveal your design. The finish was smooth and glossy, with a distinct sheen that looked amazing. I loved that PJ1’s paint is heat-treated, so it cures with the heat of regular motorcycle riding, adding to the durability. A regular rinse to get any salt off is important in winter, but a couple of good washes a year will suffice for most.

The aluminum finish, while not as flashy as gloss black, definitely had a charm of its own. It gave off a matte appearance that looked exactly like aluminum, and to my surprise, it didn’t fade or dull over time. When I stumbled upon JEGS motorcycle exhaust paint, I was intrigued by its budget-friendly price.
